My Favorite Routine For Illness Prevention
Many of us would like to be more mindful about our health and illness prevention and I wanted to share a routine that I have followed personally for years to help protect me and help me be healthier.
One of the first things that came into my awareness when I was going through extreme exhaustion and burnout was to irrigate my nose and gargle with salt water every morning and evening. I found this routine very helpful to me and still practice this routine 90% of the time, although I do have to admit I have times I digress a little; however I always return to this practice as I believe it has helped me with regard to colds and the flu and more, as well as with allergies.
Salt with Minerals
I use either Real Salt or Celtic Salt, both of them mineralized salts. I say that because our traditional salts found in the stores have been stripped of their minerals; however these two brands have not and are healthier alternatives for salt. I am sure there are other different brands that are real salt, per se, but these were the ones I was guided to and use on a regular basis.
This process is a very simple process. I just sprinkle a little salt (not too much) into a glass and add some warm or hot water, then gargle with the solution a couple of times; and then hold the glass to my nose and inhale a little, taking the salt solution into my nostrils and blow my nose, doing this a couple of times.
Vitamin C
I have also found Vitamin C to be helpful and have taken it for years. While I am sure there are many good brands, the brand that I have used throughout the years is Solaray. I generally purchase different Vitamin C’s and do not always use the exact same one; however I do take Vitamin C daily, generally every morning, and evenings if I feel a little under the weather, if you know what I mean. I always take any supplements with food so that I do not get an upset stomach.
Zinc
Zinc is also a part of my daily routine. Sometimes I do cycle off and on with Zinc. However generally I do take it, especially if I have been around others in a gathering of some kind or am feeling like I might be coming down with something. I love the Pure brand; however, it is not always available, so I purchase different brands, and use a liquid one most often. A search online will provide resources of different zincs. What would we do without the internet?
Spending Time Outdoors for Vitamin D
I make an effort to be outdoors often and to walk every day at a local park that is close by. In reading a book by Andreas Moritz called Timeless Secrets of Health and Rejuvenation, which is about an ayurvedic approach to medicine, he talks about receiving sunshine every day and the connection between sunshine and Vitamin D. While I do not personally follow many of the teachings, I do follow some of them. It also just feels good to be outdoors and enjoy the sunshine and wind, another great reason to spend time outdoors. I also take a Vitamin D supplement off and on, especially during winter months, where sunshine is limited.
Social Distancing
Social distancing is something I do regularly, having done so for many years. And if I see someone sneezing or coughing or intuitively feel they might be coming down with something, I always move to a different aisle in a store or a different area so that their allergy or illness does not have an effect on me.
Washing My Hands
And washing my hands frequently is a must. I have done that for years, washing my hands often throughout the day. Some would say I am compulsive; however, I believe it helps us to be free of illness.
While my diet is not perfect, I do make an effort to eat more healthily, especially if I think I may have been exposed to something or feel like I might be starting to come down with something.
These are routines I follow 90% of the time and I feel generally keep me safe from the harms of different illnesses that may be circulating. I also do the following at times.
Cayenne Pepper
And in the event I do happen to catch a cold or other illness, I make sure I do the above and add cayenne pepper to my food three times daily. Adding cayenne pepper always seems to help me overcome different illnesses as well. Many say that those who eat hot foods regularly never tend to get sick.
While colds and such seemed to be more of a regular happening (4 or 5 times per year), these days it may happen once or twice and seems to be due to my not making sure I am warm enough on chilly days. Following these routines always seems to help as they last only two or three days or a week at the most and then are usually gone.
With The Event of COVID I Added The Following To My Routine
With the event of COVID, I felt I should step things up a little and came across the virus protection routine by Anthony William, who is known as the Medical Medium. At that time I added the Lemon Balm tea as he suggests, and generally drink a cup in the morning and evening, although sometimes I do not drink the whole cup and may take a few sips. You can access his virus protocol through his website here. He has many other suggestions for virus protection in general that you may find helpful.
And of course I am always respectful about social distancing these days, following many other suggestions I have heard about for COVID.
I hope you have found this helpful for you. I am sure you have found your own things you like to do to help protect you and keep you in good health during times of illness and would love to hear from you about what you found helpful to you.
