7 Things To Help Us Stay in Balance During Difficult Times

Recently I found myself feeling much sadness about happenings going on in our country and world. With all that is going on, I find it more important to make sure I spend time doing things that help me feel centered and to stay in harmony in my life. During difficult times it is especially important for us to spend time doing things that soothe us and help us to feel safe and have inner peace.

Limiting Time on Media

Probably the most important thing for me right now is making sure I limit my time watching the news and spending time on social media, especially with all of the happenings in our country and world.   

Spending Time in Meditation

I would say that my most favorite thing that I love doing is meditation. Meditation alone is healing and connects us with Spirit or God, the universal presence of everything that is. Meditation brings deep inner peace and is an important part of my life. When I miss spending time in meditation, I feel disconnected and out of harmony with every area of my life.

Being Grateful For The Goodness In Our Lives

Gratitude always helps us to have a grateful heart for the good things that we have in our lives. Gratitude also helps us to bring more things into our life to be grateful for. As I spend time in meditation and prayer, I always spend a few minutes in gratitude for all of the goodness in my life.

Processing Through Journaling

Journaling is another of my favorite things to do. When I am in times where I am hurting or feeling uncertain, journaling helps me to process on a deeper level things going on around me and in my life. I find that handwriting works best for me. The act of cursive writing always helps me process things much more effectively than typing my journal.

Spending Time in Nature

Another favorite is spending time in nature. Nature is always healing and is actually a meditation in itself. Nature is always soothing and always offers solace and comfort, as well as being healing, especially in troubling times.  

Having Fun

Taking time to do something fun in our lives is also important. I have to be honest here in that this one is important for me, and yet, I probably do not spend as much time playing as I should. When I do spend time in play, photography is my go to. I love photography and so going to a park and taking a few photos of the wonders in nature always feeds me and rejuvenates my soul.

Daily Exercise

I have found that exercise, for me, especially during times of stress is important. I find that when I do not exercise I tend to internalize things more. There seems to be a magic in daily walking and working out a little. I personally enjoy weight lifting, although there are many other ways to exercise. So if you are not exercising, you might consider picking just one thing and doing it on a regular basis.

While there are many other things I could mention here, these are my very favorite things. I am sure you have your own favorite things too. I would love to hear from you about what you find is helpful to you to help you stay in balance.
